The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has pledged to curtail the smuggling of food to neighbouring African nations, amid the economic hardship sweeping through the country.

NAN reports that Ify Ogbudu, zonal coordinator, Zone B of the service, said this during a courtesy visit to Aminu Ado Bayero, Emir of Kano, in his palace.

Ogbudu pledged the service’s support in ensuring that the 42,000 metric tons of grains approved for distribution by the federal government, reach those most in need.

Bayero praised the customs service’s efforts in ensuring food security, and called for diligence and compassion towards local traders.
