The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign council in Edo has demanded for an investigation into the attack on Monday Okpebholo‘s convoy.
Okpebholo is the APC governorship candidate in Edo.
The incident occurred on Thursday near the Benin airport, shortly after the candidate and Philip Shaibu, reinstated deputy governor of Edo, were received by a horde of supporters.
A police officer lost his life in the attack.

In a statement on Friday, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, director of the council’s publicity, described the attack as an “assassination attempt”.
“We are appalled by the gruesome murder of police inspector Onu Ako, who was killed in cold blood while carrying out his official assignment,” Omo-Ojo said.
“We are also grateful that Senator Okpebholo appears to be fine after the despicable attack on a peaceful motorcade.

“This is a glaring failure by the police, which left a serving senator exposed to gunfire in a breach of security that caused fatality.
“We demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice and that state-sponsored criminals be reined in to prevent further violence.
“Anything short of this is capable of encouraging self help in the state, especially as we enter the crucial campaign season.
“We will continue to work towards providing leadership for the people of Edo and ensuring that they are safe and secure.”

Omo-Ojo said violence should have no place in the politics of Edo.
