Blessing Agbomhere, former zonal secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the south-south, says the imposition of a candidate for the Edo governorship election will cause “massive crisis” for the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 21 for the Edo governorship election.
In a statement on Sunday, Agbomhere said there is an alleged plan to endorse a sole aspirant as governorship candidate of the APC ahead of the election.
The governorship aspirant said Edo people are “too sophisticated” to accept the imposition of a candidate, adding that it might make APC members lose faith in the party.

“The disqualification of twenty nine other aspirants and the planned endorsement of Idahosa as sole candidate will lead to a massive crisis in the party in Edo state,” he said.
“Edo people are too sophisticated to accept the imposition of a candidate on them and will definitely lose faith in the APC and cast their ballots for other parties in the contest.
“Edo state parades a good number of men and women who are qualified to govern it. It is wrong, disrespectful and divisive to screen out all these men who have paid their dues to the party and the state.

“I am deeply grateful to the national working committee (NWC) of our great party which has condemned the clandestine move to destroy the goodwill that the party enjoys in Edo state.”
Agbomhere commended the party for opening the process to all aspirants.
