Edo guber: PDP dissolves south-south caretaker c’ttee — after Wike’s outburst

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its south-south caretaker committee, a day before its primary election in Edo state.

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman, announced via Twitter that a reconstituted caretaker committee will be chaired by Dan Orbih, immediate past chairman of the party in Edo state.

“@OfficialPDPNig dissolves zonal South-South caretaker committee and hereby reconstitutes a fresh caretaker committee,” Ologbondiyan wrote.

“The new caretaker committee is chaired by Chief Dan Orbih. Other members to be announced soon.”

It was not immediately clear the reason for the dissolution, but there are unconfirmed reports the move was to pacify Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, who fell out with the party leadership on Tuesday.

Efforts by the PDP to support Godwin Obaseki, Edo state governor, to contest in the primary election — having just joined the party for his second-term bid — had hit the rocks with Wike accusing some of the party leaders of blackmail.

He pulled out of the reconciliation moves in Edo after describing some members of the PDP national working committee (NWC) as tax collectors” who will never tell the truth.
