Edo state has confirmed 115 new cases of COVID-19 infections, 56 fresh recoveries and two deaths within the past 72 hours.
Andrew Obi, the state’s COVID-19 incident manager, stated this on Monday during a virtual meeting of the task force chaired by Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo.
With the new figure, the state has now exceeded 4,000 confirmed coronavirus infections.
Obi noted that the state now has 702 COVID-19 patients, who are receiving treatment at various isolation centres, adding that the fatality toll for the second wave of the virus has reached 34.

The incident manager urged residents of the state to wear their facemasks, observe social distancing and ensure regular washing of hands with soap under running water, among other guidelines.
“Edo state has, in the last 72 hours, recorded 115 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths, bringing the fatality figure in the second wave of the virus to 34,” Obi said.
“We also recorded 56 recoveries within the timeframe, with 702 active cases who are being treated at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.”

He noted that the state is facing a more violent strain of the virus in the second wave, compared to the first wave, adding that indices of case positivity and death rates are now higher.
Edo recorded its first case of the coronavirus in March 2020.
Meanwhile, a total of 4,006 persons have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the state, out of which 3,158 recoveries and 146 deaths have been recorded.
