Edo traffic law offenders to ‘undergo psychological test’

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, says violators of the traffic law in the state will be subjected to psychological evaluation.

He said this is to ascertain their level of sanity before prosecution by the relevant agencies of government.

Obaseki disclosed this when he received members of the Edo state chapter of the Catholic Counseling and Education Center (CCEC) at the government house in Benin city, the state capital.

The governor commended the center’s readiness to partner with his administration in re-positioning the traffic management system in the state.

He assured the people that the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSMA) would train members of CCEC, who would partner with the 300 staff of the traffic management agency.

Obaseki explained that the traffic officers who are familiar with the penalties for traffic violators would be deployed on the streets as soon as the agency is officially launched.

“l am going to hand you over to my chief of staff who will make the appointment with the management of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency so that you can work with them and agree on areas you can assist the people who are currently undergoing training and, to come up with a plan for the center and the type of psychological test we are going to administer and how they are going to pay for it,” Obaseki said.

He maintained that the state government would ensure that those found culpable are made to pay the necessary fines so it would serve as a deterrent to other violators.
