Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, has exposed an eight-month power outage at King’s College in Lagos.

Punch reports that Shittu YS, the vice principal of the school, confirmed that it had been without electricity since mid-2023.

“The generator worked until it collapsed before the end of the term in December,” he was quoted as saying.

Shittu said small generators were purchased for classrooms and the dining hall to manage the crisis.

He said an inverter was installed in the hostel.

Shittu noted that the school axis housing junior secondary school students had a regular power supply.

Alausa said his visit highlights the ongoing infrastructure challenges in Nigeria’s education sector.

He also raised concerns over student learning conditions.
