The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says 12 persons have been arrested over alleged vote-buying during supplementary polls in Kano and Katsina.
Speaking during an interview on Saturday, Faruk Dogondaji, EFCC zonal commander in Kano, said the sum of N1.5 million was recovered from the suspects in the states.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had suspended governorship, senatorial, house of representatives, and state assembly elections in some states over alleged irregularities during the February 25 and March 18 polls.
Supplementary elections were conducted for the state house of assembly in 17 states including Kano and Katsina on Saturday.

The house of representatives supplementary elections were held in 15 states including Kano.
Dogondaji said 10 of the suspects were arrested in Doguwa LGA of Kano, while two others were apprehended in Kankiya LGA of Katsina state.
He said the operatives recovered N1,357,500 from the suspects nabbed in Doguwa LGA, adding that N242,000 was found with the suspects captured in Katsina.

He said the suspects were arrested while attempting to use cash to influence voters in some polling units.
“We will also be physically present in all the collection centres to prevent a change of results,” NAN quoted Dogondaji as saying.
The EFCC zonal commander added that the suspects would be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded.
