EFCC ‘arrests’ Diezani’s husband

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Alison Madueke, husband of the immediate past minister of petroleum resources, on Wednesday, according to Channels TV.

Operatives of the anti-graft agency reportedly picked Madueke, a retired rear admiral and former chief of naval staff, in Abuja.

The station quoted a source at the EFCC as saying he was quizzed for several hours for allegedly laundering over $600,000 through his personal accounts.

He was said to have been released on administrative bail, but would return on Thursday for more questioning.

There are several corruption allegations against his wife, notably the “missing” $20 billion oil money and deals entered into by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the exploration arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In October, the EFCC raided Diezani’s Abuja residence after the UK National Crime agency arrested her on suspicions of bribery and money laundering.

Back then, a senior security source had informed TheCable that the raid yielded vital information that would help in the multinational investigation of one of the most powerful people in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“The raid on her Asokoro residence today yielded vital information that will help in the prosecution of the case,” the source had said.

“Many agencies across several countries are involved in this investigation. Anti-money laundering agencies in Austria, France, Switzerland, Nigeria and UK are working together on it.”
