EFCC frees Obanikoro after 18 days in custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of defence.

He was arrested on October 17 after arriving the country from his base in the US.

According to PUNCH, the former minister regained freedom around 5pm on Friday.

“The EFCC just released Senator Obanikoro around 5pm. He is on his way home now,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.

The agency accused him of receiving N4.7 billion from the office of the national security adviser in 2014.

Of the N4.7 billion, he allegedly kept N785m and gave the balance to Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti governor and Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election in Osun, the balance.
