EFCC plunging Nigeria into crisis… call them to order, Mimiko tells Buhari

Olusegun Mimiko, Ondo state governor and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors’ forum, says the actions of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) have portrayed Nigeria as a nation in crisis.

Reacting to the freezing of the account of Ayodele Fayose, his Ekiti counterpart, Iroko as he is popularly called, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the anti-graft agency to order.

The governor alleged that there is gross abuse of the constitution under Buhari’s watch.

“What has happened is a blatant and violent  infraction on the provision of the constitution and our democracy,” he said in a statement.

“It’s an attempt to subvert the constitution and it is fascist. The intention is to achieve a penal sanction without going through the due criminal procedure and criminal proceedings”

Mimiko said the essence of section 308 of the constitution is to save governors in the country from distractions, saying the action of the agency is not good for democracy.

“Immunity is part of the constitution and it must be respected whether anybody likes it or not,” he said.
