Egypt defeat Burkina Faso to book final place

Egypt, seven-time champions of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), are through to the final of the 2017 edition of the competition, holding in Gabon.

The team defeated Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties at Libreville stadium.

Essam El Hadary, the oldest goalkeeper in the competition, was the hero of the game, as he saved Herve Koffi and Bertrand Traore’s penalty kicks.

It was goalless at half time, which saw Burkina Faso as the more impressive side, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Mohammed Salah controlled Kahraba’s knocked down and finished with a fantastic shot into the top corner, with his left foot to put Egypt ahead in the 66th minute.

Charles Kabore bustled down the right, collected Yago’s smart backheel, and his cross found its way to Aristide Bancé, who chest the ball down and rifled it into the corner for Burkina Faso’s equaliser in the 73rd minute.

After Bancé’s goal cancelled out Salah’s opener, the game went into extra time.
