The Pharaohs of Egypt are steps ahead of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the race for the sole ticket in Group G for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
While the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are yet to name a coach for the senior national team, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have approved the plans of coach Hector Cuper for their AFCON campaign.
The seven-time African champions have been drawn in the group comprising Nigeria, Tanzania, and Chad and are looking to end what would be a seven-year drought from CAF’s flagship competition.
“Cuper picked June 13 as the date for our first match against Tanzania, but no venue has been set yet,” Alaa Abdel-Aziz of the EFA, said.

“He asked the EFA to hold a camp every month to get to know the players more, and we accepted this idea.
“We will have another camp in May with a friendly match. The last camp will be on June 8, to be followed by the match against Tanzania.”
Cuper, the former Valencia and Inter coach, won his first match in charge of the Pharaohs when Egypt beat AFCON 2015 semi-finalist and hosts Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in a friendly in March.
