An Egyptian criminal court has sentenced Hosni Mubarak, ousted Egyptian president, to three years in prison.
His two sons – one-time heir apparent, Gamal, and wealthy businessman, Alaa – were also convicted of graft and sentenced to three years in prison each.
They were also fined $17.9 million, the amount that they were accused of embezzling from funds meant for the maintenance of presidential palaces and also forging official documents and willfully damaging public property.
In May, Mubarak was handed a three-year prison sentence and his sons four years each, but an appeal court overturned the original verdict and ordered a retrial.

They may not have to serve any jail time in the corruption case because they already spent that amount of time in prison in other cases.
According to Al Jazeera, as Hassan Hassanin, the judge, announced the verdict, Mubarak’s supporters wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the former leader’s face shouted in anger.
His lawyers may try to appeal the verdict.

The three of them were arrested in 2011 after Mubarak was toppled in a popular 18-day uprising following three decades in power.
