Ehi Braimah to speak on ASUU strike at ‘Nigeria in the World Seminar’ in Harvard

Ehi Braimah, editor-in-chief of the Naija Times, has been slated to speak at the ‘Nigeria in the World’ seminar hosted by the Harvard Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs

The seminar will hold on October 12 and is centred on ‘The needless struggle between the Nigerian government and ASUU: A way forward’.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike since February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, and a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.

Several meetings between representatives of the union and the government to address the strike have not yielded results.

Last week, the federal government presented a certificate of registration to the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), a breakaway faction of ASUU.

Many believe the registration of CONUA was to shrink the influence of ASUU amid its lingering strike and the move has since sparked heated reactions from stakeholders in the education sector.

Braimah, who has followed the ASUU strike closely, will review key issues at stake in the crisis, the positions of government, and the impact of the approval of new federal and private universities by the government.

The seminar is scheduled to start at 5pm Nigerian time and can be attended via Zoom https://umassboston.zoom.us/j/9212289815 while the meeting ID is 921 2289 8155.
