The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Muslims to pray for divine intervention in Nigeria.
In a statement on this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the opposition party said the nation needs “intensive and fervent prayers” and “divine intervention in the affairs” of the country.
The party called on Nigerians to use the Eid-ul-Mawlid occasion to reinforce the bond of unity, love and respect for one another, especially “at this critical time in the life of our nation”.
“The PDP, therefore, calls on Nigerians, especially those holding sensitive public offices and whose decisions are central to the entrenchment of Justice, Equity and the Rule of Law in our Nation, to use the occasion to imbibe the fear of God in line with the teachings of the Holy Prophet, as this is the only way to guarantee peace and stability in the polity,” the statement signed by Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, reads.

“Such officials must note that positions are given by the Almighty Allah and that all their actions will be accounted for before Him.”
In a similar vein, Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president, asked Muslims to emulate the examples of the Prophet by upholding his teachings of honesty, forbearance, tolerance and commitment to peace.
In a statement issued by Paul Ibe, his media adviser, Abubakar urged religious leaders to use their positions of influence to spread unity, tolerance, and love for people of different faiths.

“Therefore, as we celebrate Prophet Muhammed (SAW) today, it is an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the ideals of peaceful co-existence and the absolute submission to the will of the Almighty,” Atiku was quoted as saying.
He advised Nigerians not to despair despite the uncertainties and difficulties they are encountering, but to join in the task of repositioning and rebuilding the country.
