Eight persons have been reportedly killed following a clash between farmers and herders in Bayo LGA of Borno.
According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the cause of the clash was an alleged attack on a herder after an argument with some farmers over encroachment of cattle into their farmland on Wednesday.
Sources said the herders, in a reprisal attack following what transpired at the farm, killed eight persons in the community and set many houses ablaze.
“Some arrests have been made so far, while other perpetrators are at large,” a source was quoted as saying.

“Attacks by farmers and reprisal attacks by herders within the past few months have led to loss of lives and property.
“The lack of clearly demarcated cattle grazing routes and the consequent encroachment onto farmlands by cattle were the root of the problems.”
The development comes weeks after three farmers were reportedly killed in Modu Mairamti village of the state following an attack.

The perpetrators were also said to have set houses in the village ablaze.
