AAG 2019: Ekevwo becomes fastest man as Enekwechi set new shot put record

Raymond Ekevwo clinched the gold medal in the men’s 100 meters race at the ongoing 12th All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Ekevwo ran 9.96 seconds to claim the gold, to become the second Nigerian to run sub 10 seconds in 2019.

Gue Arthur Cisse of Cote D’Ivoire won silver and Ekevwo’s compatriot, Itsekiri Usheoritse Ese, claimed bronze medal with a new personal best of 10.02 seconds.

In the women’s 100 meters race, Cote D’Ivoire’s Marie Josee Ta Lou retained her All Africa Games title with a time of 11.09s (-1.2).

Gambia’s Gina Bass ran a national record of 11.13 seconds to win Silver and Egypt’s Basant Hemida took Bronze in 11.31 seconds.

Nigeria’s Joy Udo-Gabriel finished 4th in 11.44 seconds.

While in Shot Put, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi broke Frank Elemba’s All Africa Games record of 20.25m to set a new one of 21.48m.

In weightlifting, Rafiatu Lawal won three gold medals in women’s 64kg Weightlifting event, breaking the former African Record of 92kg lift, to set a new one of 93kg. She then lifted 110kg in the Snatch and 113kg in Clean and Jerk.
