Federal lawmakers from Ekiti say they are solidly behind President Bola Tinubu‘s tax reform bills.
On October 3, Tinubu asked the national assembly to consider and pass four tax reform bills.
The legislation consists of the Nigeria Tax Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.
The bills have elicited mixed reactions, with some stakeholders from the north diametrically opposed to their passage.

The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) opposed the proposed bills following a joint meeting with the northern traditional rulers’ council.
Nine lawmakers from Ekiti have expressed optimism that the proposed reforms will drive economic growth in the country.
The lawmakers are Opeyemi Bamidele, senator representing Ekiti central; Yemi Adaramodu, senator representing Ekiti south; Cyril Fasuyi, senator representing Ekiti north.

The lawmakers said Bamidele, majority leader of the senate, led the caucus on active consultations in both chambers.
“These reforms will simplify the tax system, foster local entrepreneurship, attract investment, and create employment opportunities, driving economic growth across the state and the nation,” the statement reads.

“The establishment of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and the Office of the Tax Ombudsman will further entrench transparency, accountability, and fairness in tax administration, protecting taxpayers’ rights and fostering trust in the system.
“The Ekiti State Caucus encourages constructive debates, recognising that such discussions enrich our democratic processes.
“We also call on all stakeholders, including state governments, private sector leaders, civil society, and citizens, to support these transformative bills.
“Their success is not only a win for the Tinubu administration but also a critical step toward building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
