Members of the Ekiti state house of assembly on Wednesday took over a highway in the state capital to protest against the “harassment” of Ayodele Fayose, governor of the state, by the federal government.
The lawmakers, who held their plenary session on the Okesa highway in Ado Ekiti, condemned the freezing of the accounts of the governor.
Last Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) froze the Zenith bank accounts of Fayose on the grounds that some illicit funds, about N1.2bn, were traced to them.

Reacting to the development on Wednesday, the lawmakers asked the government to let the governor be.
“No amount of intimidation, harassment, arrest will push us to do any dirty job. We have had enough of intimidation. They should leave Governor Fayose alone; he was duly elected by the people of Ekiti state,” Kola Oluwawole, speaker of the assembly, said while speaking with journalists.

“The freezing of his account without following due process is a high level of intimidation and we condemn it.”
Fayose has since filed a suit at a federal high court in the state to challenge the action of the EFCC.
