Ekong: Musa chose Kano Pillars despite multiple options in Europe

Ekong: I know Musa had many options, but for him to come back to Kano Pillars is amazing

William Troost-Ekong, Super Eagles defender, says Ahmed Musa had “many options” to join football clubs in Europe before choosing to return to Kano Pillars.

Ekong spoke in a chat with TheCable in Uyo on Wednesday.

On October 5, Musa joined Kano Pillars for a third spell at the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club. The winger had been without a club since leaving Sivasspor at the end of last season.

Musa had previously played for the Sai Masu Gida side in 2010 before his first foray into Europe. He also returned to the club triumphantly in 2021 for a brief spell.

His latest spell at the club was off to a great start when he scored a brace on his debut in a victory over Sunshine Stars at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

Speaking on Musa’s decision to return to the NPFL, Ekong described the move as “amazing” despite the winger’s other options.

He added that Musa’s image is “great” for the league, adding that the player reminded “everyone that he’s still got it” with the brace he scored in his first game.

“I’m very happy [he came back to the NPFL]. I spoke to him throughout the summer because I was so curious to see where he was going to go.

“I know he had many options, but for him to come back to Kano Pillars is amazing. In his first game, [he scored] a brace. I think it’s to remind everyone that he’s still got it.”

“I think it’s great what he’s doing for the league. The biggest name football-wise may be Victor Osimhen and our new meme-king [Victor Boniface], but he is a real legend; it’s great for football and him.”
