Elon Musk to grant ‘general amnesty’ to suspended Twitter accounts

Elon Musk, Twitter CEO and new owner, says the platform will grant “general amnesty” to suspended accounts from next week.

Amnesty is the act of authority by which a pardon is granted to an individual or group of people.

Musk made this announcement after he asked in a poll posted to his timeline to vote on reinstatements for accounts that have not “broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.”

The final poll results on Thursday showed 72.4 percent voted in favour and 27.6 percent opposed the general amnesty policy. The poll had over 3.2 million votes.

“The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted using a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people, the voice of God.”

Last weekend, TheCable reported that Musk carried out a similar poll before reinstating the account of former President Donald Trump.
