xAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) company owned by Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has introduced a new image analysis feature for Grok, its chatbot.
Musk announced the new feature on Friday.
He said the feature allows for analysis of medical tests and video games.
“You can upload any image to Grok for analysis, from medical tests to video games! Just tap the + button or paste the image into the entry bar,” he wrote.

The new update puts Grok on par with other industry-leading AI tools, including OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 (which uses ChatGPT for image generation), Meta’s AI assistant (available on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, offering text and image generation), and Google’s Gemini 2.0 (capable of generating images, audio, and text).
xAI previously tested the waters with image generation by introducing a tool called “Aurora” within Grok in November 2024, however, the feature was removed after its brief launch.
Since its debut in November 2023, Grok has seen rapid growth.

Initially exclusive to X premium users, the AI assistant became available to non-premium users in December 2024 with some restrictions.
Free users are now able to make up to 10 queries every two hours, along with access to limited image analysis features, while premium and premium+ subscribers enjoy increased access, including up to 50 daily queries.
In November 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported that Grok’s valuation reached $50 billion, while Sam Altman, OpenAI’s chief executive officer (CEO), described Musk’s chatbot as a “serious competitor” a month later.
