#EndSARS: NGOs to train youths on leadership, social change

Citizens Commons International, a social impact organisation, has partnered with Voice Global Initiative, a civil society group, to provide leadership training for youths who participated in the #EndSARS protests.

According to a statement issued by the organisation, the project, tagged ‘From Protest to Action’, will focus on four programmes that will provide necessary tools for Nigerian youths to make their voices heard.

Through the ‘Do Something Social Action Hub’, young Nigerians will be empowered with digital knowledge and resources to exhibit social change, while 20 “potential youth leaders” will be identified and mentored under the ‘Community Change Champion Programme’.

A series of national debates and community town hall consultations will be organised under ‘Youth Conversations for New Nigeria’ to create social awareness.

The ‘Legal Commons Partnership’, which is the fourth programme, will provide legal support for interested persons, as well as training on policy issues affecting the country.

Speaking on the project, Olalekan Oshunkoya, executive director of Citizens Commons International, said the programmes will provide an avenue for youths to amplify their voices at “tables where decisions are made”.

“From Protests to Action is our own effort to amplify the voice of Nigerian youths by creating the tools and resources to make sure that our voices are not only heard on the streets, but also on the table where decisions that affect our lives are made,” he said.

“For us to achieve lasting change, we must be intentional and invest in capacity development that develops new leaders through collective action.”
