The 2014 edition of The Headies Music Awards has opened for entries to Nigerian music materials released between July 2013 and June 2014.
According to Smooth Promotions, the organisers who made the disclosure in Lagos on Tuesday, the entry process officially commenced on July 22, 2014, and would close on August 30, 2014.
Chief Executive Officer of Smooth Promotions, Mr Ayo Animashaun, said the awards, which is in its ninth year, would continue to maintain its high standards.
He said Nigerian artistes are contributing their quota to the nation’s growth and therefore deserve to be recognised and rewarded.

“There is no better way to reward these deserving artistes. They are not only appreciated by their country, but also celebrated on a platform aligned with international brands.
“The honour of receiving this prestigious award in their country, that is recognised on an international level, is one of the many things Smooth Promotions aims to achieve with this year’s awards.”
He added that there would be a new category, ‘Best Alternative Song’ and that the live premiere of The Headies would hold on October 25.

Since its inception in 2006, The Headies has recognised the distinguished achievements of artistes and entertainers in various categories.
These include rap, r&b, dance hall and alternative music, making it one of the biggest events in the country’s entertainment calendar.
Previously known as the Hip Hop World Awards, the award has recognised some of the biggest Nigerian artistes such as D’banj, P-Square, Dr Sid, Wande Coal and Wizkid.
