Edward Ubosi, speaker of the Enugu state house of assembly, has threatened to ban journalists from covering proceedings at the legislative house over negative reports.
He alleged that some journalists have been reporting activities that did not take place on the floor of the assembly, citing an instance of a committee set up to investigate reports of diversion of funds in the state’s internal revenue board.
“We only set up a committee to look into the diversion of funds at the board of internal revenue,” he said.
“We never said we are probing the former governor, Mr Sullivan Chime. Don’t add your own, just say it the way we say it here in the assembly.

“Quote us the way we say things here, otherwise we stop you from covering the assembly.”
Ubosi said the assembly set up the committee to look into the activities of the board with a view to ascertaining the true position of the state between 2008 and June 2016.
He, however, thanked the media for the relationship existing between them and the assembly.

The action of the assembly followed a petition by Obinna Okenwa (PDP- Enugu south urban) that funds were allegedly diverted by the former chairman of the board, Felix Chime, and other principal officers.
Okenwa said the alleged diversion had further worsened the economic situation in the state.
He prayed the assembly to investigate the matter and to cover the period between 2008 and June 2016, with a view to recovering the funds.
