Environment minister implores climate change council to focus on target

Balarabe Lawal, minister of environment, has urged staff of the National Climate Change Council (NCCC) to be committed to team work.

The minister spoke during a familiarisation visit to the NCCC offices in Abuja on Tuesday.

Lawal described the climate change council as a “growing venture”, adding that there is a need for NCCC to “grow to get to the target”.

He said Salisu Dahiru, NCCC director general, cannot do it alone and urged the staff to support him in achieving the council’s goals.

The minister further appealed to the NCCC to understand the fundamental values of synergy, dedication, mentoring, punctuality, and team work in order to deliver on its mandate.

“I am sure you must have some issues and a lot of hurdles to cross but with determination, dedication and commitment of the staff, the council will get to the target,” he said.

“He needs your support, and that support is what we require to move the council forward as this will give the council the opportunity to achieve its main goal.

“Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to environmental stewardship and collective teamwork. Together, we can pave the way for a sustainable future for generations to come.”

In his response, Dahiru said: “Since the establishment of the NCCC in 2022, we have never seen a brighter day than today”.

“No minister has ever visited us. Therefore, we are extremely delighted,” he added.

The director general also assured the minister of his commitment and support to achieving the ministry’s mandate.
