Enyeama: A great disappointment to lose

Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, was left frustrated and disappointed after the 1-0 loss to Uganda in his 100th game for Nigeria.

Farouk Miya 81st minute goal in the international friendly match on Wednesday at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo took the shine off Enyeama’s milestone.

And it’s only understandable that the Lille of France first choice in goal regrets the loss to the Cranes of Uganda on his special day.

“A great disappointment to lose against Uganda on this auspicious day that marked my 100 caps in the colours of the Super Eagles,” he told supersport.com.

“There was prestige at stake in the game and the innermost desire to maintain a clean sheet on this special day in my life.

“Well this is football, we’ve to live with the reality of the defeat and plan better in subsequent matches.

“However, I must say a big thank you to Nigerians, including those in Diaspora, for believing in me in the past 13 years. I want to say I love them all.”

The 32-year-old is now contemplating his international future.

“I’ve to stop playing for the nation at some point and concentrate fully on a club assignment, but I’ll sit down with the coaches to sort out things before a decision is made,” he said.

“I can’t play football actively forever. At the right time, a decision will be taken on my Eagles future.”

Nigeria will on Sunday meet Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their next friendly match at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
