Vincent Enyeama prefers Nigeria’s qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to winning the CAF African player of the year award.
The Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper has been nominated for both the CAF and BBC African player of the year awards but following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, the Lille first-choice goalie says winning individual awards is of relative importance.
“It’s not important to me and I’ve always been saying it because those are individual awards and if you ask me to choose, I would take the AFCON over the awards,” Enyeama told SL10.ng.
“I really want to thank everyone that has been involved in making me get nominated and it’s a big honour for me as a Nigerian. It gives me pride and prestige and it would be great if we won it again and hopefully we will win it, but it’s about the team and not about me.”

Enyeama is among the few players in the Super Eagles who deserve a thumps up for their performances, especially against Congo in Pointe Noire, in Nigeria’s ill-fated qualification campaign.
