Everton scored once in each half to consign rivals Liverpool to a 2-0 defeat in their English Premier League (EPL) derby encounter at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
Goals from Brantwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin dented the Reds’ title challenge while boosting the Toffees’ EPL survival in a Merseyside derby Liverpool had dominated in recent years.
Everton took the lead on 27 minutes as Liverpool failed to clear at the back. Brantwaite was in the right place to punish the visitors, slotting into the net for 1-0.
A lacklustre Liverpool did not pose much threat despite bossing possession and Calvert-Lewin made them pay for a blunt attack when the England international headed into the net from Dwight McNeil’s corner kick delivery.

The victory is Everton’s first Merseyside derby win at home over Liverpool in 14 years as Jurgen Klopp continues to endure disappointment as his tenure winds down at the end of the season.
Elsewhere, Manchester United came from behind twice to defeat relegation-threatened Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford. Two Bruno Fernandes’ strikes and further goals by Harry Maguire and Rasmus Hojlund helped the Red Devils keep up the hunt for fourth place.
