Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scored one each in the first half for Liverpool in their 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the English premier League (EPL) on Sunday.
The duo also assisted each other as Liverpool displayed ruthlessness in front of goal against the reigning EPL champions who had more possession in the encounter.
Man City gave a rare start to Kevin de Bruyne but benched Erling Haaland, while Salah led Liverpool’s attack alongside Luiz Diaz.
The home side put the visitors under pressure in the early exchanges but it was Liverpool that took the lead on 14 minutes after winning a corner kick off of City attempting to play out from the back.

The Reds put together a clever routine that ended with Salah’s deflected strike going past Ederson into the net for 1-0.
Omar Marmoush thought he had equalized for Man City on the half hour mark but his strike was rightly ruled out for straying offside before the goal.
Man City continued to control possession but could not break down Liverpool and were undone by another swift Liverpool attack that ended with Salah finding Szoboszlai to strike the ball into the net for 2-0 on 37 minutes, a lead the EPL leaders took into the halftime break.

It was more of the same in the second period for both sides, as Man City continued to control the game but were held at arm’s length by Liverpool who continued to look menacing in attack, with a third goal chalked off for offside on 57 minutes.
The defeat is Man City’s third at home in the league this season, and first home loss in five league matches. Liverpool, on a 23-match unbeaten league run, completed the double — home and away wins — over Man City for only the first time in nine years.
Arne Slot’s side also increased their lead at the top to 64 points from 27 matches, 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
Man City are in fourth place with 44 points from 26 games, 20 points adrift of the league leaders.
