EPL: Man City score six against Ipswich to move into top four

Phil Foden scores brace in City's 6-0 over Ipswich

Manchester City scored three goals in each half to crush Ipswich 6-0 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Portman Road on Sunday.

The reigning EPL champions looked like their imperial past with an emphatic victory engineered by goals from Phil Foden (brace), Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic and youngster James McAtee.

Foden swept home Kevin de Bruyne’s pass for the opener before Kovaci doubled the lead from the edge of the box from Foden’s pass. The England international then made it 3-0 before the interval with a shot from inside the area.

Doku opened scoring early in the second half with a deflected shot and Haaland, fresh from signing a nine-year contract extension, with an emphatic finish before McAtee rounded off scoring with a looping header late on.

Victory moves Pep Guardiola’s side back to fourth position with 38 points from 22 matches, 12 points away from leaders Liverpool.

Earlier, Manchester United, City’s neighbours, were humbled 3-1 by Brighton on a day the Red Devils were mourning the demise of Denis Law, the club legend who died on Friday night, with Andre Onana gifting the visitors one of the goals.

However, Nottingham Forest continued their good form and remained joint-second following a 3-2 win over basement club Southampton.
