EPL: Onuachu scores in Southampton’s defeat as Man City drop points again

Paul Onuachu scored his third EPL goal of the season in Southapton's defeat to Wolves

Paul Onuachu, Super Eagles striker, scored for Southampton in their 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the St. Mary Stadium on Saturday.

The lanky striker scored what ended up as a consolation goal for the home side that suffered their 24th loss of the EPL campaign.

Wolves had gone two goals up with a brace from Jorgen Larson before Onuachu pulled one back for Southampton in the 75th minute.

Onuachu sorted his legs out quickly to tap home a rebound after Tyler Dibling’s curler had ricocheted off the upright into his path.

The goal was the 32-year-old’s third league strike of the season as Southampton remain rooted to the bottom of the EPL log.

Erling Haaland scored for a landmark achievement but could not help Manchester City from sharing the points in a 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad stadium.

The EPL champions were hoping to recover from last week’s loss at Nottingham Forest but were held back by poor defending and a fearless Brighton side rewarded for their bold approach in attack.

Haaland scored the game’s first goal in the ninth minute from a penalty kick awarded for Andy Webster’s foul on Omar Marmoush in the box.

The Norwegian striker sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and slotted home his kick for 1-0 to City.

Haaland has registered 100th goal involvement in the EPL with 84 goals and 16 assists in 94 appearances, becoming the first player to reach the milestone in less than 100 games.

Brighton pulled level in the 21st minute through Pervis Estupinan. The Ecuadorian midfielder’s well-taken free-kick from 22 yards towards the bottom far corner hit the post before finding the net, with Stefan Ortega rooted to the spot.

Although Marmoush restored Man City’s lead early in the second half, Abdukodir Khusanov’s own goal again denied the Pep Guardiola side a victory.

Nottingham Forest maintained their UCL push with a 4-2 win over relegation-threatened Ipswich, Ola Aina, Nigeria international, playing all 90 minutes of the easy win for Forest who moved to just one point behind second-placed Arsenal.

RESULTS

Ipswich Town 2-4 Nottingham Forest
Southampton 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers
