Manchester United scored once in each half to overcome Manchester City in the English Premier League encounter played at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

In the 185th meeting between the two Manchester rivals, Bruno Fernandes’ penalty and Luke Shaw’s strike helped United put an end to City’s 21-match unbeaten run.

United had played three consecutive goalless draws in the league, yet had the best possible start with a second-minute penalty.

While the Red Devils sat back and waited for a chance to counter, City improved as the half wore on with over 60% possession. They would eventually go close through Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riyad Mahrez.

City started the second half by hitting the post through Rodri but United responded by extending their lead with the next attack.

Luke Shaw collected Henderson’s thrown ball and galloped over 50 yards unattended, exchanged passes with Marcus Rashford, and slotted into the bottom corner.

Pep Guardiola’s shell-shocked side could not conjure clear cut chances, with Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling shooting wide as United ran out comfortable winners.

The surprise win makes Ole Gunnar Solskjær the first manager in United’s history to win his first three away meetings in all competitions at Man City.

In an earlier game, Liverpool suffered a sixth consecutive loss at home as the Reds fell 0-1 to Fulham at Anfield. Mario Lemina scored a first-half goal to put their European football hopes in serious jeopardy.
