Tottenham Hotspurs defeated Arsenal 2-0 in their English Premier League (EPL) match played on Sunday, thanks to a devastating partnership between Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

The 201st North London derby had 2,000 fans inside Tottenham’s stadium and Spurs rewarded them with a classic team performance that tore into the heart of Arsenal’s high defensive line.

Tottenham claimed a third consecutive North London derby victory, equaling the record set in 1982.

The Lillywhites also remained unbeaten at home against Arsenal in seven matches, their longest run since a nine-game record set in 1968.

Son gave Tottenham the lead on 13 minutes when he finished off a devastating counter-attack. The Korea Republic forward collected Kane’s pass, took the ball in his stride before sending a curling shot into the top corner from outside the penalty area to give Jose Mourinho’s men a 1-0 lead — and his 13th goal of the season.

It went from bad to worse when Tottenham struck again on the stroke of halftime just when Arsenal looked like breaching Tottenham’s resolute defence.

Serge Aurier stopped another Arsenal attack and Spurs countered in devastating fashion. Tottenham moved the ball upfield to Son who set up Kane, who then blasted in a shot high into the net at Leno’s near post for 2-0 halftime lead.

The second half was a mirror of the first period as Arsenal continued to probe but Tottenham’s well-drilled defence held firm. Willian still managed to volley high and wide while Lacazette’s header was saved by Lloris as Tottenham’s defence recorded its fourth consecutive clean sheet — and fifth overall — of this EPL season

Tottenham are now back to the top spot on the EPL table with 24 points, two ahead of Chelsea and another three points clear of Liverpool, the EPL champions, who play later at night.

Arsenal, however, drop to 15th place and are seven points above the relegation zone.

On November 21, Tottenham overcame Manchester City 2-0 at their London Stadium to go top of the EPL table for the first time this season.
