EPL round-up: Arsenal regain top spot as Man City keep title defence bid alive

Arsenal scored twice in the second half to ease past Brighton in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday.

Bukayo Saka’s first half penalty put the Gunners on the path to victory before Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard sealed the game. Courtesy of the victory, Mikel Arteta’s side kept another clean sheet — a fifth in succession — to equal their EPL record of away clean sheets set in 1997.

Arsenal went ahead on 33 minutes when Tariq Lamptey brought down Gabriel Jesus in the penalty area and Saka stepped up to dispatch his spot-kick to give his team a 1-0 lead.

In the 61st minute, Martin Odegaard found Jorginho who crossed towards the near post where Havertz was on hand to flick in to double the North Londoners’ advantage.

Trossard would score the third goal against his former club in the 86th minute to add more gloss to the scoreline.

With seven matches to the end of the season, Arsenal returned to the top of the EPL with 71 points, one ahead of Liverpool who have played a game less, while Manchester City also remain in the hunt and are joint second.

Pep Guardiola’s side continued their title defence with a 4-2 win over Crystal Palace.
