EPL round-up: Liverpool win to stay top as Haaland scores brace

Liverpool scored twice in the second half to defeat Burnley 3-1 in their English Premier League (EPL) match at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds had their three frontmen — Diogo Jota, Luiz Diaz and Darwin Nunez — on the scoresheet in front of a record 59,896 fans.

Liverpool went ahead through Jota’s header but they were pegged back by another header from Burnley’s Dara O’Shea.

Jurgen Klopp’s side improved in the second period and took maximum points via Diaz’s 52nd minute strike and Nunez’s header on 79 minutes.

Liverpool remain top of the EPL table with 54 points from 24 matches, two ahead of Manchester City who defeated Everton 2-0 earlier in the day thanks to Erling Haaland’s brace.

Tottenham also claimed a last-gasp 2-1 win over Brighton thanks to Brennan Johnson’s strike.
