EPL roundup: Man United secure important win as Arsenal suffer home defeat

Manchester United scored twice in the second half to overcome Newcastle United 3-1 on Sunday, thanks to strikes from Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

It was United’s first league win in three matches, following a run of draws as they revived an unlikely title bid.

Rashford, profligate in front of goal in recent weeks, opened the scoring on the half-hour when he lashed in a shot for his 18th goal of the season.

Newcastle deservedly restored parity six minutes later, with Allan Saint-Maximin flashing a half volley beyond David de Gea for a 1-1 halftime scoreline.

A patient Man United were rewarded with the lead on 57 minutes through a rejuvenated James. The Wales youngster finished off at the near post when Fernandes poked Nemanja Matic’s ball into his path.

Rashford would then win the penalty for Fernandes to put the game to bed in the 75th minute.

Earlier in the day, Man City won 1-0 at Arsenal for their 18th straight league win thanks to Raheem Sterling’s third-minute goal.
