EPL: Saka scores in Arsenal comeback victory as City, Liverpool get slim wins

Bukayo Saka celebrates his goal in Arsenal's 3-1 victory over Southampton

Bukayo Saka scored once and provided two assists as Arsenal came from a goal down to defeat Southampton 3-1 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The English footballer of Nigerian descent sealed the win after providing assists for the duo of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli, pulling the home side back from a deficit in a match in which all goals were scored in the second half.

Southampton took a surprise lead 10 minutes into the second half as Cameron Archer finished off a counter-attack. Arsenal, however, responded immediately, with Havertz curling into the net three minutes later.

Martinelli converted Saka’s cross at the back post to put Arsenal ahead for the first time, before the latter sealed the entertaining encounter with a well-placed finish.

The win ensured Arsenal remains unbeaten in the league, while Southampton are on a run of 20 EPL matches without a win and are joint-bottom of the EPL with only one point.

Elsewhere, Manchester City also survived early and late scares to defeat Fulham 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium. Mateo Kovacic’s brace and Jeremy Doku’s late finish were enough to keep Man City joint-second with Arsenal on the EPL log.

Liverpool remains top going into the international break thanks to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
