Etebo hopes hamstring injury isn’t serious

Oghenekaro Etebo, the highest goal scorer of the male soccer event of the Rio 2016 Olympics, has confirmed that he pulled a hamstring in the game against Colombia.

The midfielder got injured in the 83rd minute ‎of the match, which Nigeria lost 2-0, and was stretchered off the pitch, leaving Nigeria to complete the game with a one-man disadvantage.

“I pulled my hamstring,” he told TheCable shortly after the game.

“I don’t know until I go for the test to confirm how serious it is, but I hope it’s nothing major.”

Etebo helped the Dream Team to the U23 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Senegal in December 2015, finishing as the top scorer with five goals, including a brace in the 2–1 win against Algeria in the final.

He carried that form to the Olympics, scoring four goals as Nigeria defeated Japan 5-4 in the opening match of the tournament
