Europa League: Omorodion bags brace as United scrape draw against Porto

Samu Omorodion celebrates his goal against Manchester United in the Europa League

Samu Omorodion scores a brace in Porto’s 3-3 draw against Manchester United in their Europa League encounter.

Man United slightly avoided defeat courtesy of Harry Maguire’s late equaliser in a goal fest at the Estádio do Dragão on Thursday evening.

Erik Ten Hag’s team squandered a two-goal lead as the United continued their struggle in European competition. They have failed to win nine of their last ten games in Europe.

United started the better of both sides, and they raced ahead in the seventh minute as Marcus Rashford’s shot trickled into the net through the legs of Diogo Costa, Porto’s goalkeeper.

Shortly, Rasmus Hojlund doubled United’s advantage after a passage of play that began with a smart distribution from Andre Onana.

But Porto refused to take the deficit with docility. The hosts emerged from their slumber and obliterated United’s lead before halftime.

Pepe, the Brazilian winger, scored Porto’s first goal following a mistake from Noussair Mazraoui.

Omorodion then drew the hosts level with a powerful header in the 34th minute. The Spanish footballer of Nigerian descent conjured such force behind the header it rocketed past Onana straight down the middle of the net.

Early in the second half, Omorodion gave Porto the lead for the first time in the game. He brushed off Matthijs de Ligt to receive a cutback from Pepe before rifling the shot into the top corner.

The night went from bad to worse for United later in the game after Bruno Fernandes was dismissed following a high boot tackle. But Maguire rescued a point for the English club in the match’s added time.
