Evans will be charged alongside 15 of his gang members.

Following his arrest, the police had requested 90 days to carry out an investigation into the crimes committed by Evans. The request was granted by the federal high court.

Olukoya Ogungbeje, Evans’ lawyer, had subsequently filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit on behalf of his client.

According to the lawyer, the police had violated his client’s rights by detaining him since June 10 without charging him to court.

He said the continued detention of Evans without a court order was unlawful and a violation of the suspect’s rights under sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the constitution.

The suit filed against the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, and three others, was on Tuesday adjourned until September 5, 2017.
