The English Premier League (EPL) has handed Everton a 10-point deduction for breaching the competition’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs).
The league body announced the sanction in a statement on its website on Friday.
According to the statement, the club admitted to an independent commission that “it was in breach of the PSRs for the period ending Season 2021/22, but the extent of the breach remained in dispute”.
The independent commission found that Everton had run at a loss by spending almost £20 million more than the threshold set by the EPL, with the penalty handed out after five days of deliberation.

“Following a five-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that Everton FC’s PSR Calculation for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5million, as contended by the Premier League, which exceeded the threshold of £105million permitted under the PSRs,” the statement reads.
“The Commission concluded that a sporting sanction in the form of a 10-point deduction should be imposed. That sanction has immediate effect.”
The penalty issued by the EPL governing body’s independent commission takes immediate effect. The sanction means Everton dropped to 19th on the EPL log with four points, above Burnley only on goal difference.
