Ex-chief pharmacist of national hospital gets life imprisonment for sodomy

A high court in the federal capital territory (FCT) has sentenced a former chief pharmacist of the National Hospital Abuja to life imprisonment for sodomising a 12-year-old boy.

In a statement on Tuesday, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said the pharmacist, identified as Abubakar Mustapha Danraka, was convicted on Monday.

Danraka was said to have committed the offence in March 2020.

According to the NAPTIP statement, Danraka who was an Imam at Spring Valley Estate in Abuja had invited the boy into his room and raped him.

“In its efforts at implementing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act in the FCT, NAPTIP secured a landmark rape conviction,” the statement reads.

“The defendant, Abubakar Mustapha Danraka (former chief pharmacist at National Hospital, Abuja) was convicted of rape (sodomy) and sentenced to life imprisonment.

“In a historic ruling presided over by Hon justice A.AKanbi-Yusuf of the FCT high court 25, on September 18, 2023, ABUBAKAR DANRAKA was convicted for Rape (Sodomy) under S.1 of theVAPP Act and sentenced to life Imprisonment.

“The convict was a former chief pharmacist at National Hospital Abuja.”

The agency added that it had secured three rape convictions and counting in 2023.
