Ex-Nasarawa deputy governor regains freedom | Police deny knowledge of ransom payment

Onje Gye-Wado, former deputy governor of Nasarawa state, has regained his freedom from captivity.

The former deputy governor was abducted on Thursday at his residence in Gwagi village, Wamba LGA of the state.

Gye-Wado was said to have been released on Sunday after the payment of N4 million ransom.

Ramhan Nansel, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Nasarawa, confirmed the release of Gye-Wado on Monday.

The police spokesperson however said he is not aware if a ransom was paid before the former deputy governor was released.

He said Gye-Wado was set free following the “search and rescue” operation of the police.

“We don’t support or encourage payment of ransom. So that is totally out of our knowledge. We don’t know anything about that,” he told TheCable.

“He was released due to the sustained effort of our search rescue team that was deployed.”

Gye-Wado is a professor and former dean of the faculty of law at Nasarawa State University.
