Ex-NYSC director-general regains freedom after 22 days in captivity

Maharazu Tsiga, a former director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in captivity.

On February 6, Tsiga was abducted in Bakori local government area (LGA) of Katsina state.

The former DG, who is also a retired major general, was said to have been kidnapped alongside several residents of Tsiga village.

The suspected gunmen, reportedly led by bandit kingpin Babaro, had demanded N250m for the former DG’s release.

Channels Television reports that Tsiga was released on Friday night and is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital due to security reasons.

It, however, remains unclear if any ransom was paid for his freedom.

As of the time of filing this story, Abubakar Aliyu, spokesperson of the Katsina police command, had yet to respond to TheCable’s request to confirm Tsiga’s release.
