Ameh Ebute, former senate president, has asked the federal government to lay a formal complaint against Tom Marino, the US Congressman who recently accused President Muhammadu Buhari of “excesses”.
In a letter to John Kerry, US secretary of state, Marion accused the president of running an autocratic government. He also asked his country to withhold its security assistance to Nigeria.
But in a letter to the minister of foreign affairs, Ebute urged the Nigerian government to explore ways of telling Marino to limit himself to what he is knowledgeable about instead of dabbling into Nigerian politics.
He added that the assistance of the US in the fight against insurgency is not entirely for the benefit of Nigeria but for the American nation itself.

“A Nigeria free of terrorism will contribute to a more secured world and the Americans would actually be helping themselves by offering this assistance since that country is the one in the crosshair of terrorists,” he said.
In the letter, dated September 6, Ebute said from all indications, Marino knows nothing about Nigeria. He said Marino’s letter was driven by the belief that his country remains an imperial lord over Nigeria and other nations.
“I therefore crave your indulgence to use your office to send a strong message to Congressman Tom Marino, the US Congress and the United States government that the era of imperialism is over and discussions about mutual cooperation should not be exploited to pass ignorant judgment on Nigeria or any other nation for that matter,” Ebute’s said.

“What is saddening is the realisation that within Nigeria there is a section of the population that erroneously thinks Marino has done them the favour of providing ammunition to continue their unyielding attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
“This however cannot be further from the truth as the letter is an attack on Nigeria as a country, which in Marino’s view is nothing but an outpost of the US.”
Ebute presided over the senate during the end of the third republic.

Very well said Sir.
Amen Ebute should please shut up he was part of those who mismanaged the affairs of this country may be he is seeking for appointment after all ,Buhari should be older than him and still the president of a vibrant youthful nation, is a shame.
I wonder how he wants the American senator to regard Nigeria when people like him and Buhari have destroyed the nation, what can you produce in Nigeria?what foundation did you lay ? Our president is still talking about agriculture to feed your family and encouraging nomadic grazing in 21st century.Ebute should shut up rather encourage your president to shed his religious bigotry and nepotism which is evident.you forgot that the world is now a global village any rubbish you do here is seen the same time all over the world. Ebute where were you when Americans were dealing adversely with Jonathan’s administration and Buhari and his cohorts were clapping for them?the chicken has come home to roast.
Worried, you lack home training aand evidently developed very poor manners. The Americans are not as idiocentric and tribalistic as you are, they will always have their interest in the background but, no matter what we see today, no sañe person will lay it at buhari”s feet, you can blame him for being slow, you can blame him for not getting right at first start but you will be a fool (i think you are) to believe that the passed 16 years did not have a major contribution to what we see today, you blame the old people but you are even worse off. If the government wàs in a young man’s possession now i am sure with people like you we would have been worse than suddan, if the economy was healthy even when oil prices was good and boko haram and co were not attended to reallywhy was the jonathan administration borrowing to pay salaries? Why did they have to borrow 2 billion dollers for arms and shared the money while nigerians where dying? Ofcourse thats not your concern since you are not affected? We can never sit and think for ourselves, just taking what we want not what is true and ofcourse what our crooked politicians sponsor on tabloids a media. Critism is good for government, it helps them sit up and we need that greatly but what we should abhore is fantasies and lies people like you carry like virus and you spread to others who knows no better. And by the way, which of the congressmans accussation is true? Is it thecriminals that have looted us dry being prosecuted? Is it dàsuki the paymaster? Is it the policians (crooked i might add) that are using stolen nigerian money to do all within their powers to sabotage and distabilize the government so people like you can come back to eat the crums from their table? Do you know how maney un charter America víolates on a daily basis? Do you think they have only guantanamo bay where they keep people without trial indefinitely? Let the illiterate congressman go to this school before he qualifies to insult Nigeria. Am sure miopic people like you set him up to this. Well Congratulations for embarrassing him and yourselves. Enjoy
I wonder what Mr. Ebute is insinuating by urging the ministry of foreign affairs to explore ways of telling Marino to limit himself to what he is knowledgeable about instead of dabbling into Nigerian politics.
If Mr. Ebute or the Buhari led federal Government feels that Marino is spreading falsehood, just like Garba Shehu insinuated when The Telegraph published its report recently, they can always drag them to court for spreading falsehood. You do not need any exploration here, this option is always on the table.
Otherwise it could be a better face saving tactic to keep your mouth short and learn to live with criticisms or rather attack according to Mr. Ebute. Period
