Former students of the Mass Communication department at The Polytechnic Ibadan have donated a 3.15KWP solar power system to the institution.
The former students, under the umbrella of the Association of Student Communicators 2003/04 Set, Class of Presidents, donated to the school on Saturday.
The donation is part of activities to mark their 20th year since graduating from the institution in Oyo.
The ex-students gathered at the Rotary House in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for the grand finale of the 20th anniversary celebrations.

Rotimi Wusu, the president of the cohort, said the project was driven by the inadequate electricity supply at the institution, a challenge they faced during their time at the school.
He encouraged current students to seize the opportunities available to them, which he and his peers did not have.
He also urged them to leverage social media to amplify their voices and drive change.

Wusu encouraged the students to “transform the narrative, create meaningful changes in the polytechnic and within the department, strive for excellence and let your light shine beyond these walls.”
Wasiu Olatunbosun, the commissioner for culture and tourism in Oyo and the special guest at the event, commended the former students for their contributions to their alma mater.
Olatunbosun, a former lecturer in the same department, referred to the cohort as the “set of achievers,” highlighting the significance of supporting one’s educational institution.
In his address, Taiwo Lasisi, the polytechnic’s acting rector, thanked the former students and noted that their set had provided a solution to the power supply issue facing the institution.

“This gift is given to the management, not just to the Mass Communication Department. We hope that other sets from other departments can also engage with this initiative and give back to the management,” Lasisi said.
