The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has engaged Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto state governor, to mediate in the rift between John Oyegun, national chairman of the party, and Bola Tinubu, the national leader.
Tinubu had accused Oyegun of manipulating the Ondo state governorship primary election.
He then called on Oyegun to resign his position for allegedly leading the APC down the path of internal tyranny.
Tinubu’s preferred candidate, Olusegun Abraham, lost to Rotimi Akeredolu in the election.

Although an appeal panel later nullified the election, Oyegun allegedly overruled the panel and submitted Akeredolu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s candidate in the November 26 governorship election.
However, there are other political undercurrents for the present state of things.
On Tuesday, Tambuwal visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa to seek his blessing for the task of resolving the crisis.

TheCable gathered that the governor, who refused to divulge to state house correspondents the reason for the meeting, briefed the president on his planned peace mission.
TheCable also learnt that the party hierarchy – governors, legislators, elders, etc – are unhappy about the developments in its fold, hence a need to de-escalate the situation.
Oyegun refused to tackle Tinubu for the allegation he levelled against him, instead saying he could not be heard speaking evil against “our leader”

In the meantime who runs Sokoto State? Is meditation in party conflict part of the job description of Governor Tambuwal?
Did you wish to go in his stead?
