Panic in Lagos over gas explosion

There was confusion in the Oworoshonki axis of Lagos on Sunday following a gas explosion that occurred in the area.

Joshua Oluwole, a resident, who witnessed the incident, told TheCable that it occurred around 2pm.

He said security personnel have since cordoned the area, while all those who sustained injuries, have been taken to the hospital.

Oluwole added that a toddler was among the injured and that about two buildings were destroyed in the incident.

“I was relaxing at the home after returning from church when I just heard a loud sound,” he said.

“Initially, we were confused because such sound was strange. People rushed out and wanted to start running for cover but we some smoke coming from the direction of the next street.

“It was when I got there that I was a bit calm because people gathered and started talking. I don’t really know the cause of the explosion.

“Some people said bomb were planted in the house, while others are saying it is gas explosion. But everything is calm now.”

Olurunfemi Shem, spokesman of the police in zone 2, Lagos, attributed the incident to gas explosion, saying no casualty was recorded.

He also confirmed that the injured are being treated in the hospital, adding that the situation is under control.

“It is a gas explosion. No casualty as we speak. A few persons only got injured and are being treated at hospital,” he said.

Razak Fadipe, director of Lagos fire service, said he dispatched his men to the scene of the accident immediately he got wind of the situation.
